FHMCT conducted a webinar on “Transformation of a Student into a Food and Beverage Professional” on 22nd September 2022 by Ms. Saynee Basy. The speaker is the Director- Food and Beverage, at Taj Yeshwanthpur, Bengaluru. She is an alumna of the Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Mumbai, after which she did an MBA in Hospitality Management, General Management and Revenue Management at ESSEC Business School, Paris. She started her career in Food and Beverage Service in the Taj group of Hotels, has interned at Concorde Hotels & Resorts after which she has held various positions like Restaurant Manager and Banquet Manager at Vivanta by Taj, Bangalore.
She gave the students an insight on the attributes of food and beverage personnel, competencies and skills required and how they can prepare themselves to meet the requirements of the food and beverage industry. She emphasised on the right attitude, communication and commitment. He talked about skill development being an ongoing process and how to ‘respond and not react’. She ementioned that business aspects of a hotel is of utmost importance and what Is learnt in college is the foundation and is used later in life. These basics help managers to operate efficiently. This industry makes the employees very strong and professional. She said that industrial training should be taken seriously and all aspects should be explored. The students interacted with her and Ms. Basu gave them interesting examples of real life situations that helped them understand better.
